The Way to a Man's Heart

Sometimes the stars align just so, and all works out in due time, as you hoped it would. Or so I set the stage about six weeks ago when I secretly, quietly, planted several jalapeno pepper plants, knowing that of all the things in my garden, my husband, a nacho lover, would most appreciate those. And sure enough, just in time for Father's Day, the first of the jalapenos were ready for picking just yesterday.

My mother had told me at the Big Mother Daughter Talk when I was ten that the best way to a man's heart was through his stomach. I'm certainly not advocating that position, since I've learned some harsh lessons about love along the way, starting with the fact that my oatmeal cookies didn't hook that kid Donald for very long. Yet, Mom, I have to admit, it was with great pride that I presented the secret jalapenos to my husband, sliced and ready to adorn his nachos, and I do believe love grew deeper right before my eyes.

Happy Father's Day, and may the way to your heart be through the shared bounty of food from those you love today.
