Top of the Haystack

I entered the FarmAid Top of the Haystack contest a few weeks ago and then promptly forgot about it. It is a contest to award two tickets to Farm Aid on September 9 on Randall's Island in New York. As a contestant, I was required to enter the reason I want to go. I said:

I am a citizen activist who uses the power of the pen (er, keyboard) through my blog, FoodShed, to influence change and increase awareness for local food systems. I would like to attend Farm Aid so that I can tell the world about what happens there.

In the contest, each contestant gets pitted against another contestant for a "battle" online. Online users vote for one or the other, and then a new battle starts. I received an email yesterday that gives my "scorecard" to date. Turns out I have won 2524 battles won out of 4821! What's more, I am listed as one of the leaders (okay, there are probably about 300 leaders listed, but still!)

So, check it out. Vote for me, if you can figure out how this thing works (I find it a little confusing, personally!) or at least vote for some of these folks who seem really dedicated to supporting local farmers. Also, browse around the FarmAid site--I personally love the design. And remember, all proceeds up until Labor Day (oh, forget that--might as well make it up until the Farm Aid concert on September 9) from the FoodShed shop on Cafepress go to FarmAid. That averages about $5 per item. A big thank you to those who have placed orders this summer. It is extraodinarily exciting to me when I get an email from Cafepress letting me know, and I look forward to handing in "our" FarmAid donation (in person?!)
