But Moira, change is not an option if 65% of your homeowners association members voted against change! So metal is not a choice in my 'hood. (But, FYI, my new roof is a 30-year- roof, so can we hope for recycling by then?!)

I feel you on the roofing...we have hail damage too, but, as nothing is leaking, we're waiting and saving. Seems many metal roofing companies install right on top of the old asphalt so there's no waste! And, as metal roofs last longer, there's not a new asphalt roof to rip off and throw away in 10 more years! Just in case any folks are out there are reading and contemplating...it's not always just recycling or waste that's the option, but, looking for another way altogether! :)

I've never actually seen an asphalt roof. Round here everything is colour steel in various types of corrugation and its all recycled and always has been as far as I know. Our new roof is baked on enamel but you can still get it plain and paint it yourself if you want - mostly for replacing the odd sheet on old roofs these days.

Patty, all that from a hail storm? Yikes! There's so much more that goes on behind the news reports sometimes, it's scary. But yes, it's encouraging to see all these signs of eco-progress, depressing how far behind the curve Congress is.
